Slowly Ceiling

Commissioned by the Lisbon Architecture Triennial. Located in the palace whose construction predates the 17th century earthquake, this building has had a long history whose residents were, like this natural phenomenon, powerful and unstable. Many of them experienced exile, whether self or externally imposed. Using this history of exile, Slowly Ceiling Literally pushes all but two inhabitants out of the room by means of an inflatable concealed in black carpet. As these two forms engorge, the two sofas in the center of the room also tip backwards until they are on their backs. At this point they form a single bed where the two remaining occupants of the room face an unexpected closeness with a stranger.
